ANPU Special Products

AREVA NP Uddcomb has since many years launched two special products, test blocks and particle separators, on the Swedish and the international market. Those products are a result from long experience and extensive developing work in the field of advanced engineering and welding technology.

Our special products consists of:

  • Test blocks for NDE Qualification
  • Particle Separators

Test blocks for NDE Qualification

Test specimens with purposely embedded defects for qualification of NDE (Non Destructive Examination) shall as close as possible represent a realistic defect. This is why test specimens are best manufactured by vendors with experience from manufacturing the kind of objects subject to testing. We have this competence on AREVA NP Uddcomb AB, from our previous manufacturing industry and from current operations.

From idea to final product

We can offer project management, planning, manufacturing documentation, technology for manufacturing and introducing defects. In addition, we have resources for welding, heat treatment and control.

We supply test specimens all over the world

Throughout the years we have delivered test specimens for qualification of equipment, methods and personnel to e.g Finland, Great Britain, US and South Korea.

Examples of defect types in test specimens:

  • Geometric defects
  • Implants
  • Weld solidification cracks
  • Lack of fusion
  • Mechanical fatigue cracks
  • EDM notches
  • Weld solidification cracks DAS182 (Defect Simulation in Alloy 182 welds)

Particle Separators

It's always important to avoid debris in the feedwater systems at BWRs, because fuel failures are commonly caused by clad fretting due to debris entering the reactor and fuel assembly which normally leads to:

  • Radioactive particles will be spread in the plant, causing increased radiation levels and hot spots.
  • Increased contamination of components and equipment leading to higher doses for service and maintenance personnel.
  • Increased costs for clean-up and decontamination work.
  • Un-planned outages and extra costs for replacement of damaged fuel.
  • Costs for repair of fuel bundles and scrapped fuel.
  • Risk of malfunction of control rod drives.
  • Loss of production.

AREVA NP Uddcomb has developed an own design for Particle Separators with unique technical solutions and manufacturing methods which have been successfully installed at many Swedish NPPs.
