First joint contract for AREVA, Uddcomb Engineering and Tecnimarse

The two subsidiaries of AREVA, Uddcomb Engineering (Sweden) and Tecnimarse (Spain) have been awarded a contract for replacement of piping and control rod drives in the Cofrentes Nuclear Power plant in Spain. The contract was signed with the Spanish plant owner Iberdrola on February 28, 2007. It is the first contract that will be jointly processed by the two subsidiaries of AREVA.
The project scope comprises the replacement of the scram lines for the control rod drives (CRD) as well as the CRD position indication equipment cables. The performance concept, lead-managed by Uddcomb Engineering, implements individual activities at the CRDs into an overall outage package based on a tight schedule on the critical path. This concept represents not only an innovative solution from an outage duration point of view but also a drastic reduction in terms of necessary additional activities. This is the first time such a scope will have been performed in a single outage in a Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plant.
"The contract underlines the relevance of the strategic acquisition of Uddcomb and Tecnimarse by AREVA", said Leif Bosson, Managing Director of Uddcomb Engineering. "Neither Uddcomb Engineering nor Tecnimarse or AREVA would have been able to win the contract without the mutual support of the respective partners", he emphasized. AREVA acquired the Spanish nuclear service company Tecnimarse in 2004 and the Swedish Uddcomb Engineering, specialized in nuclear plant maintenance, repair, upgrading and engineering services, in 2005. Both companies since then strengthen the position of AREVA in the local as well as in the international markets in the nuclear engineering and services sector.
